Terps Come From Behind To Top Indiana In Five Sets In Season Finale


BLOOMINGTON, IN — In its season finale, Maryland stormed back from a 2-1 deficit to claim a thrilling win in five sets (25-21, 10-15, 20-25, 25-20, 15-8) over Indiana. 

The Terps took a competitive first set behind a dominant effort from Rainelle Jones, who, playing in her final game as a Terp, finished the frame with five kills and three blocks. Sam Csire added four kills while Sydney Dowler notched 10 assists and three blocks. 

After dropping the second frame, the Terps battled hard in the third, battling back to make it a 17-19 game late, before ultimately dropping the set.

The fourth set was neck-and-neck early as the sides were knotted at seven apiece. Maryland grabbed a 14-11 advantage before Indiana rallied to cut the deficit to 19-18. The Terps responded with a 6-2 run to clinch the frame and force a decisive final set. 

Building on that momentum, the Terps jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead to take control. They never looked back from there and claimed the dramatic, come-from-behind victory to conlcude the season .500 overall. 

Jones was absolutely dominant on both sides in her final Maryland outing, notching a double-double with 10 kills and 10 blocks. 

The Terps finished the season 16-16 overall and 7-13 in Big Ten action, including two victories over top-10 teams. Indiana moved to 16-16 overall with an 8-12 mark in conference play. 

Leaderboard

  • Jones and Csire led the offensive attack with 10 kills apiece.
  • Dowler notched 32 assists and 13 digs to lead the way in both categories.
  • Jones (10), Dowler (five), Laila Ricks (five) and Anastasia Russ (four) each notched at least four blocks.
