Terps Finish Road Trip With Loss At Michigan State

EAST LANSING, MI – Maryland volleyball was defeated by Michigan State in consecutive sets (19-25, 22-25, 18-25) at Breslin Center on Saturday. The Terps are now 13-16 overall and 4-14 in Big Ten play. 
 
Samantha Schnitta tallied nine kills, six digs, and two service aces. She now has 79+Today aces to lead all NCAA Division I. The total is also a program record. 

Sam Csire finished just short of a double-double, adding eight kills, eight digs, three blocks and two aces for another all-around performance by a Terp. 

Other standouts were Anastasia Russ (seven kills and four blocks), Katie Scherer (five kills), and Zoe Huang (16 assists and six digs).   

The Spartans improved to 12-17 overall and 5-13 in conference play. The Terps previously beat the Spartans, 3-1, at the Pavilion on Nov. 7.  

Breaking Down The Action

Set 1: Michigan State 25  Maryland 19 

  • The Spartans opened the first set leading 5-1.
  • Maryland sparked a 4-0 run to tie the game at 5-5 with two kills by Anatasia Russ and Katie Scherer
  • A kill by Sydney Dowler gave the Terps an 11-10 lead.
  • A 6-1 run by Michigan State gave them a 16-12 advantage. 
  • The Spartans closed out set one with a kill and attack error by the Terps. 

Set 2:  Michigan State 25  Maryland 22 

  • The Spartans began set two with a 5-3 lead. 
  • A 6-2 run allowed the Spartans to grow its lead to 13-9. 
  • A kill by Eva Rohrback cut the lead to five.
  • A 7-1 run by Maryland cut the lead to just one, but Michigan State scored the final two points to take the set.
