Terps Win Fourth Road Big Ten Match In A Row, 3-1 At Iowa

CORALVILLE, IA — Maryland volleyball opened a two-match road trip with a 3-1 victory over Iowa on Friday night at the XTREAM Arena. The Terps secured the victory, 25-18, 16-25, 25-18, 25-23 to move to 13-10 overall and 4-7 in the Big Ten. Iowa dropped top 7-15 and 1-10 in conference action. Maryland has now four consecutive road matches in the Big Ten for the first time in program history as this victory came on the heels of three road sweeps at Rutgers, Northwestern and Purdue earlier this month. 

Anastasia Russ led Maryland with 10 kills and eight blocks. Laila Ivey also had 10 kills. Laila Ricks had nine kills and eight digs. Sydney Dowler piled up 31 assists and 11 digs while Milan Gomillion had 18 digs.  

Breaking Down The Action

• The Terps took control of Set 1 to capture the stanza. 25-18. Russ had four kills as the Terps hit .312 in the set. Dowler dished out eight assists. The Terps built a 10-9 lead into a 19-11 lead in the opening set. Maryland closed out the first set with an ace from Lexy Finnerty.

• The Hawkeyes controlled the second set, winning 25-16. A 5-0 run for Iowa increased its lead from 14-13 to 19-13 as they took the set by nine points. 

• In the third set, a pair of 4-0 spurts by the Terps gave them a 25-18 victory to take a 2-1 lead. A block by Russ wrapped up the set. The Terps had three aces and six block assists in the third. 

• The Terps rallied from being down 14-7 in the fourth set to get back within one at 15-14, winning seven of eight points. Then Iowa went ahead 20-17 before the Terps rallied again to win 25-23. Overall, Maryland outscored Iowa 18-9…
