Final Stats COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Texas A&M volleyball team won its Friday match against South Carolina 3-1 (26-24, 25-17, 25-22, 25-12). The Aggies started fast and continued their momentum throughout the game, as they took down a tough SEC road opponent.
Leading the way for A&M (12-10, 4-7 SEC) was Caroline Meuth, she had 20 kills on a .529 hitting percentage. Logan Lednicky followed suit as she added 16 kills alongside her four blocks. Elena Karakasi notched her ninth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 10 digs. Ava Underwood led the team in digs, as she registered 13 to go with her three assists. Madison Bowser reached her season high in blocks as she tallied eight which led both teams.
The first set opened with back-and-forth as the teams were tied at seven. The Aggies gained small advantages, but the Gamecocks (10-10, 4-6 SEC) responded tying the match again, 15-15. Texas A&M pulled away from South Carolina with kills from Bowser and Lednicky, 20-17. The Maroon & White found itself down 23-22, but a kill from Meuth followed by a point from the service line had A&M up, 24-23. South Carolina answered to level the game at 24, but a kill from Lednicky followed by an error from the Gamecocks won the first frame for Aggies, 26-24.
The Aggies carried their momentum into the second frame as they opened an early lead, 8-4. The Gamecocks developed a rhythm of their own as they tied the game at 14. The tie continued to 16, but back-to-back points from A&M forced a South Carolina timeout. The Maroon & White continued where it left off, as it scored another three-straight which prompted another Gamecock timeout. A&M closed out the set with a 9-1 run, as it won the set 25-17.
As the third set opened, neither side gave up an inch as the teams were tied 10 times. The Gamecocks pulled away from the Aggies as they led, 18-14. South Carolina extended its lead 21-15, but A&M answered with three-straight points which forced a Gamecock timeout. Once again, the Aggies responded out of a timeout, scoring another two points back-to-back as South Carolina called its second timeout. The Gamecocks went on a run, and won the third set, 25-22.
