The Commission’s annual meeting was held virtually
The FIVB Athletes’ Commission held its annual meeting last week, to present its work in 2023 and to discuss how it can continue to represent the voices of the FIVB’s global network of players.
The meeting was held virtually in the presence of the Commission President Madelein Meppelink, Secretary Sam Deroo, as well as fellow Commission members, including Louise Bawden, Julius Brink, Joshua Binstock and two new members of the Commission, appointed in 2023, Doaa Elghobashy and Simone Anzani.
The meeting focused on a number of important topics, including updates on volleyball and beach volleyball events as well as the Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes. The Commission also discussed its successful activities, including proactive communications with athletes, the development of the Players’ Fund, the Commission’s strategy from 2024 onwards, and key upcoming events such as the Athletes’ Commission elections for the 2024-2028 cycle.
The important role of the Commission was highlighted during the presentation of the FIVB Volleyball Calendar 2025-2028. The President of the Athletes’ Commission Madelein Meppelink was one of a three-member working group that dedicated substantial time to ensuring the new and innovative calendar incorporated the athletes’ voice.
Addressing the Commission, the FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“Your Commission has a vital role to play as the bridge between the athletes, FIVB and Volleyball World. And with a busy Olympic year ahead, it is more important than ever that you continue to serve as the voice of athletes. So please continue to support and listen to your fellow players so that you can best represent them.
“Also in 2024, we will experience the second-ever Athletes’ Commission elections. It has been a hugely successful four years under the current Commission, and I look forward to welcoming both old and new members to this prestigious role, to help continue the long-term relations the FIVB has with its global network of players.”
This gathering concluded a series of FIVB Commission meetings that have been held last week.
