Three Named All-Liberty League for Women's Volleyball

TROY, N.Y. – Three members of the Union College women’s volleyball team earned postseason recognition from Liberty League coaches this season, as junior Shannon McGrath, sophomore Maddie McCarron and first-year Allie Kronenberg were named to the All-Liberty League Teams, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.

McGrath led the way with a spot on the All-Conference first team, her third straight All-League honor and making her the first Union player to earn first-team recognition since Katherine Moeller ’17 in 2016. Kronenberg earned All-Conference second-team honors as a rookie and McCarron was tabbed as an honorable mention for the second straight season, marking the team’s second season in a row with three All-Conference selections.

McGrath makes the leap from honorable mention in 2023 to the first team in 2024 after another excellent season as the team’s top outside hitter. She led the team in kills for the third straight season with 337 and added 307 digs and a team-best 67 service aces on the year, ranking second in the Liberty League in kills, aces and points, while also sitting third in kills per set and ninth in digs. She paced the squad with 12 double-doubles on the season and was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week in November. Through three seasons with the team, McGrath currently ranks third in program history in kills per set (3.25) and has put down 890 kills with 761 digs and 150 aces in 78 career matches, sitting 13th in kills all-time at the school.

Kronenberg made an immediate impact at the setter position as a first-year, ranking third in the Liberty League with a team-leading 842 assists while also sitting third on the team with 235 digs and adding 40 blocks, 27 aces and 87 kills as part of a well-balanced effort on the court. The two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week finished second on the team with nine double-doubles on the season and her assist total was the highest by a Union player since 2017.

McCarron loomed large at the net for Union once again in her sophomore season, recording a conference-leading 1.04 blocks per set (94 in 90 sets) and also ranking fourth among Liberty League players with a team-best .289 hitting percentage. The middle blocker registered at least three blocks in 20-of-29 matches this season and also ranked third on the squad…
