Tigers Dominate Day One of Mizzou Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball (3-2) dominated in a pair of matches, 3-1 to Abilene Christian and 3-0 to Missouri State on Friday, Aug. 2 to open the home portion of the 2022 season at the Mizzou Invitational.

Sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Cox led the Mizzou attack in each match, recording a pair of double-doubles, to push the Tigers over both the Bears and Wildcats.


MATCH ONE: MIZZOU 3, ABILENE CHRISTIAN 1

Mizzou topped ACU in the home opener in four sets, dropping the first 22-25 but taking the next three by margins of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-13, respectively. Cox rode a career-best tying, 21-kill performance for th Tigers while the Wildcats were led by Londyn Gray with 7 kills.

The Tigers used a strong serve to keep pressure on the Tigers, recording eight aces in the match. Mizzou’s serve also kept ACU out of system, leading to 10 total blocks for the Tigers. Sophomore Trista Strasser led all players in the match with 6 blocks.


MATCH TWO: MIZZOU 3, MISSOURI STATE 0

In the nightcap, Mizzou’s offense came out firing in a straight-set win as the Tigers outdueled the Bears 25-15, 25-17 and 25-17.

Senior Anna Dixon led the Tigers 14 kills while Cox added 13 kills to the Mizzou effort.
