Tigers Fall in Three to William Carey

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College volleyball hosted Southern State Athletic Conference front-runner William Carey University on Friday night in Birthright Alumni Hall. The Tigers fell in three sets to the undefeated Crusaders, 25-8, 25-9 and 25-6.

 

TiAna Lawrence‘s kill on the second rally of the night tied the first set, 1-1. Stillman’s next three points came off William Carey errors to trail by three, 7-4. Khadeja Bryant collected her first kill for a 9-5 deficit, before WCU put together a seven-point run to lead by double digits. Lawrence broke the run with her second kill of the night. 

 

Stillman evened the second set, 1-1, on an Aeraeonna Manuel kill, but another seven-point run for the Crusaders helped break open the set. Bryant stopped the run, 8-2, with her second kill of the night. The next four Tiger points came off errors, with Kamryn Harris recording the last kill of the set for Stillman’s ninth point.

 

Harris recorded Stillman’s first kill of the third set for the Tigers’ fourth point. Bryant recorded her third kill of the match for Stillman’s final point of the night. 
 

Bryant led Stillman with three kills. Harris and Lawrence each had two and Manuel had one. Katelynn Madison and Grace Fjeldstad each had four assists. Madison led the defense with five digs.

 

Mia Hague and Elaina Anderson led William Carey with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Rachael Messer had 14 set assists and Rachel Hartmann had 13. William Carey posted 17 service aces in the match, led by Jacey Garriga’s five. Avery Durdin and Anderson each had three.

 

Defensively, Hague led the Crusaders (19-0, 9-0) with six digs. 

Stillman (0-9, 0-8) will return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when it hosts Loyola University. Admission is $7.
