RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Devan Taylor finished with 19 digs as the Clemson volleyball team (12-11, 3-8 ACC) dropped a three-set match to NC State (12-10, 6-5 ACC) on Friday evening inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State took control of the match early in the first, hitting .382. Ani Clark, Mia McGrath and Colleen Finney battled at the net against the Wolfpack tabbing some early blocks for the Tigers. Sophomore Devan Taylor added an ace for Clemson, while Cate Long and McGrath got some kills down the stretch, but NC State took the first set, 25-11.
The Tigers bounced back in the second posting five service aces between Long, Anna Renwick, Mckenna Slavik and Becca Micelle. Clark, Long and Slavik strung together some kills for Clemson, and Finney came up with back-to-back points for the Tigers with a kill and a block assist with Camryn Hannah. Despite the strong start, Clemson dropped the second set, 25-20.
Clark got the Tigers started in the third set with a kill, and Slavik added her second ace of the match. NC State strung together a couple scoring runs to take the lead, but Finney, Long and Hannah brought the Tigers back with a couple kills and blocks. Despite a late kill from Hannah, NC State posted a .421 hitting percentage in the third set to win, 25-13.
