PITTSBURGH – Torrey Stafford earned her first ACC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season, announced by the ACC Monday evening. Stafford played a critical role in Pitt winning its third outright and sixth overall ACC Championship with two top-20 wins last week.
She averaged 3.67 kills per set and 2.33 digs per set in the wins over No. 3 Louisville and No. 19 Georgia Tech., hitting .397. Stafford recorded 17 kills and 13 digs for a double-double against Louisville, hitting .405 to secure a share of the ACC Regular Season Championship. The outside phenom concluded her impressive weekend of play with 16 kills, eight digs and an assist in the win over Georgia Tech to clinch the outright championship, hitting .389, the highest of all pin hitters on the night.
The No. 1 overall seed Panthers are home at the Petersen Events Center for the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament as they play Morehead State on Friday at 7 p.m. With a win, Pitt will play the winner of Oklahoma/UTEP on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for a spot in the NCAA Reginal Semifinals.
