Tyus, Wetton Reach 10 Wins at San Jose


SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Oregon beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the San Jose State Tournament. Holding down the second spot in the lineup, however, the duo of Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton completed a 4-0 weekend to reach 10 wins for the season.
 
After three-consecutive weekends on the road, the Ducks are home next Wednesday, March 23, to host Corban at Amazon Park. The midweek matchup is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. (PT). Admission is free and fans are encourage to bring chairs to sit around the courts.

The host Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead with victories at the bottom of the lineup but Oregon rallied with wins at No. 2 and 3 pairs to tie the dual at 2-all. Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder secured the Ducks’ first point with a 22-20, 21-14 triumph at the No. 3 spot. It was their third win in four matches as Oregon’s third duo.
 
Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton followed up with a 21-19, 21-13 victory at No. 2 pairs, defeating Siena Brewer and Amethyst Harper to tie things up. However, the match fell in favor of San Jose State with Cheyenne Rice and Jaida Ward besting the UO pair of Zoe Almanza and Chloe Brown in two sets.
 
The final represented the Ducks’ fourth 3-2 setback of the season.

The Roadrunners led 2-0 with sweeps at No. 3 and 5, and clinched the match with a tight, three setter at the fourth spot in the lineup. Emma Bubelis and Alanna Shields took the opening set before Abby Plevin and Batia Rotshtein responded with a 21-19 win in set two to force a third. The CSUB pair, however, got the win—15-12 in the third—to clinch the dual.
 
CSU Bakersfield added a fourth point with a win at No. 1 pairs but Tyus and Wetton prevented a sweep, posting a 21-17, 21-16 victory over Emma Erteltova and Sophia Hladyniuk in the final match of the day.
