STANFORD, Calif. – Iman Ndiaye scored a game-high 15 kills at a .500 hitting percentage in the UCLA women’s volleyball team’s 3-0 loss to No. 7 Stanford at Maples Pavilion on Friday evening.
Ndiaye joined élan McCall as one of two Bruins to reach double-digit kills in a match ten times this season. Freshman Cheridyn Leverette also had a career night with nine kills (.318) in her first appearance in UCLA’s last 12 matches and her first since LMU on Sept. 8.
The Bruins (9-9, 3-6 Pac-12) hit for 43 kills at .241 compared to the Cardinal’s (13-4, 8-1 Pac-12) 51 kills at .360. Stanford out blocked UCLA 11.0-2.0 thanks to 7.0 alone by McKenna Vicini.
Outside hitter Katie Baird racked up 18 kills (.485) in the three sets nine of which came in set two. The Cardinal’s Elia Rubin and Kendall Kip each recorded 11 kills at above .300.
UCLA squandered a 16-10 lead in set one and a 20-16 in set two before Stanford put away the match with 19 kills (.484) and four blocks in the third. In set one, a 5-0 Cardinal run with pair of kills by Kendall Kipp and two blocks from Makenna Vicini seized the lead at 22-19. The Bruins began with a 6-1 lead in set two, but late 6-0 Cardinal run capped by back-to-back blocks Vicini and setter Kami Miner swayed momentum in their favor at 22-20.
