LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UCLA women’s volleyball team recorded 17 kills in the fourth set along the way to a 3-1 victory over Indiana at The Walter Pyramid in the Long Beach State Tournament Friday night.
Set scores were 18-25, 25-14, 25-21 and 27-25.
The Hoosiers (3-2) had set point on the line in the fourth, 24-23, when middle blocker Desiree Becker quickly sided out with a monster kill on an assist from freshman setter Ashley Mullen. Seconds later, Cheridyn Leverette aced Indiana to put match point at the service line for the Bruins (3-1).
UCLA went on to win the set and match in extra points, 27-25, on a long rally that featured a pancake dig from libero Peyton Dueck and kill by Carly Hendrickson.
Middle blocker Anna Dodson scored a match-high with 17.0 points coming off 12 kills (.450 hitting percentage) and five blocks. Iman Ndiaye joined Dodson added 12 kills (.320%). In the back row, Dueck and defensive specialist Kat Lutz snuffed out 15 and 11 digs, respectively. Mullen totaled 41 assists on the night.
Hendrickson tallied the first kill of her collegiate career in first set.
