LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women’s volleyball team returns to Westwood after a pair of wins over the Arizona schools to host Oregon State and No. 17 Oregon in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom this weekend. The Bruins (8-7, 2-4) play the Beavers (6-10, 1-5) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Ducks (10-4, 4-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m. PT. UCLA’s matchup with Oregon will be televised on ESPNU.
The Bruins are led by Charitie Luper with 3.60 kills per set and setter Matti McKissock who is averaging 10.57 assists per frame.
Weekend Recap
UCLA picked up its first conference wins of the season with a sweep over Arizona State and four-set victory in its match versus Arizona last weekend.
Against the Wildcats, the Bruins hit for a collective .327 while élan McCall, Iman Ndiaye and Luper each recorded 11 kills. Middle blockers Anna Dodson and Francesca Alupei both had efficient nights hitting for eight and five kills, respectively, for a combined .500.
In Tempe, Charitie Luper was dominant with a career-high 25 kills at .440 in a double-double effort with 11 digs. McCall tallied her fourth consecutive double-double in the match with 10 kills and 13 digs. Libero Mackenzie Cole was solid for the Bruins in the serve and receive with a team-high 21 serve attempts and team-high 30 receptions with only one reception error.
Noting the Bruins
• The Bruins are hitting .214 as a team while limiting their opponents to .175.
• UCLA ranks third in the conference and 23rd in the nation in blocks per set (2.65).
• Francesca Alupei leads the conference and ranks sixth in the NCAA in blocks per set (1.53).
• Alupei has had a career-high nine total blocks on three separate occasions this season (at Hawai’i, at San Diego State, at Arizona).
• Charitie Luper recorded the second 20-point performance by a Bruin this season at Arizona last weekend with a career-high 26.
• élan McCall picked up her third and fourth consecutive double-double last weekend. She leads the Bruins in that category with six.
• Libero Mackenzie Cole leads UCLA with 3.74 digs per set (202 total digs).
• Setter Matti McKissock leads UCLA with 10.57 assists per set. She currently has 4,621 career assists including her four seasons at Georgia Tech (4,103 AST) and 518 assists so far this season.
