REDDING, Calif. – The University of California, Merced men’s volleyball team lost in straight sets to Simpson University on the second leg of a back-to-back, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21) Sunday evening inside the James M. Grant Center.
The Bobcats (6-7, 3-1) defeat snapped a season-best five-match winning streak.
Ryan Kilgore and Jared Guglielmana led the Bobcats with nine kills and eight kills, respectively, while Toby Miller finished with 26 assists and a career-high two solo blocks.
Jozef Lingenfelter added five kills and Brennan Taylor and Chris Morikawa pitched in four kills each. Taylor’s four kills came on four swings. Morikawa shared match-high with eight digs to go along with his offensive contributions. Kaikoa Soma sent across a career-high two service aces.
Simpson was led by Flavio Mercado’s 12 kills, two service aces, and a block. Nikos Kalagasidis tallied 31 assists and quarterbacked the Red Hawks offense to .324 hitting percentage.
Looking ahead, UC Merced will play #3 Benedictine University Mesa on Saturday, March 4 at 6:00pm PST.
