LOS ANGELES – USC men’s volleyball freshman outside hitter Dillon Klein (Loyola HS/Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was chosen as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s MPSF/Molten Offensive Player of the Week for the week of April 10-16, the league announced on Monday, April 17. It is the first-career award for Klein and first won by a Trojan this season.

In two matches against Concordia University Irvine, Klein averaged 5.38 points per set to power the Trojan offense and help USC collect two pivotal wins to capture the six seed in the MPSF tournament. He had 34 kills and hit .431 in the two outings (4.25 kps) and racked up his 18th and 19th matches in double-digit kills; his 20th and 21st matches in double-digit points. He has broken the 20-point plateau nine times in his first season in the Cardinal and Gold. Klein also had a season-high three service aces in the first match with the Golden Eagles and had a total of five aces on the weekend to go with seven total blocks.

The award is the first won by a Trojan since libero Cole Paxson was chosen for his fourth-career defensive honor last season on March 28.

The Trojans concluded the regular season with a 5-10 overall record and went 3-9 in MPSF matches to finish in sixth place. As the six seed, USC will take on MPSF tournament host and third-seeded Stanford in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday (April 19) at Maples Pavilion. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. PT and the match will be shown live on FloVolleyball.

In its history, the USC men’s volleyball program has captured four NCAA championships while appearing in 15 NCAA tournaments and has produced 21 Olympians, 34 first-team All-Americans, and seven College Players of the Year.
