Utah Athletics Announces Crimson Carpet Awards Nominees


SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah’s student-athletes will hold their annual awards show, the Crimson Carpet Awards, on Wednesday, April 19, at the Julie M. and David S. Layton Field Club in the Ken Garff Red Zone at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Today, the full list of nominees for each award was announced.
 
The Crimson Carpet Awards bring all student-athletes together for an evening to celebrate academic success, athletic talent, community service and leadership. Teams put forth their nominees for many of the awards while coaches made the nominations for the senior awards. Student-athletes vote on the winners.

WELLNESS ADVOCATE AWARD – Presented to the student-athlete who has demonstrated a commitment to personal wellness and shown courage in advocating for mental health awareness among student-athletes.

Nominees: Kenzel Lawler (Football), Dominic Mata (Lacrosse), Hannah Truax (Swimming & Diving), Jaedyn Rucker (Gymnastics)

 

SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCATE AWARD — Presented to the student-athlete who is committed to creating and maintaining actionable change in the athletics department, at the University of Utah and within the Salt Lake City community surrounding social justice issues.

 

Nominees: Hannah Truax (Swimming & Diving), Maya LeBar (Track & Field)

 

JAMES R. “BUD” JACK TEAM COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD – This award honors the legacy left behind by Bud and Ila Jack, who dedicated 40 years of their lives to the University of Utah. Bud served in many capacities including 17 years as the Athletics Director and Assistant Vice President for Athletic Development. Bud was also an instrumental part of starting women’s scholarship athletics at Utah nearly 40 years ago. Presented to the team that has gone the extra mile to give back to Salt Lake City. Not only does it have a powerful reflection of who this team is, but also reflects what it means to be a caring student athlete at Utah.

Nominees: One selection to be announced on Wednesday

 

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARDS — Presented to the individual who excelled in his/her first season of competition at the collegiate level by demonstrating dedication, ability and spirit.
