PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Utah Beach Volleyball team wrapped up action at the Pac-12 Championships after falling to #13 Washington 3-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium.
The Utes began the match with the 2s and 4s in action as Marissa Koch and Kylie Pitzak were able to pick up a hard-fought 21-19 first set win after pulling out to a lead early on and holding onto the lead until the very end. Bella Vezzani and Abby Karich dropped their first set and the Husky duo on court two continued their momentum throughout the second set as well to push Washington ahead 1-0.
Koch and Pitzak couldn’t sustain enough momentum in the second set to close out their match and saw Washington’s fourth pair push the match to a third set. Koch and Pitzak fell behind early on in the third set and couldn’t overcome the deficit, eventually falling 15-7 to see Washington take the 2-0 lead in the dual.
Amaya Messier and Katie McAlister faced the top duo from Washington to continue the courts underway as the Utes found themselves in a hole right away. The Huskies pushed through to a 21-11 win and rolled in the second set as well to clinch the match and end Utah’s run in the Pac-12 Championship.
Utah ended the season with 11 wins, which included two Pac-12 wins against Oregon. The two Pac-12 victories are the most in a season in program history. The win against Oregon on Wednesday at the Pac-12 Championships was the program’s first win at the conference championships since 2018.
