Utah Sweeps San Francisco To Wrap Up Utah Classic

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball put together a complete game on both sides of the ball to sweep San Francisco (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) on Saturday night to close out the Utah Classic. The Utes combined for a season-best .391 hitting percentage, while the Ute defense out-blocked the Dons 12-1 in Salt Lake City.

Freshman Kamryn Gibadlo led the offensive efforts with 11 kills at a season-best .688 hitting percentage. It marked the sixth-straight match of double-digit kills for Gibadlo. Kamry Bailey and Lauren Jardine each added nine kills, while Allie Olsen posted eight kills on .538 hitting. Olsen also tied a career high of seven blocks to lead the blocking efforts for Utah.

Jardine totaled five blocks, while Viktoria Wahlgren and Emrie Satuala each earned four blocks on Saturday. Wahlgren tallied 33 assists in Utah’s win and Vanessa Ramirez also added 13 digs.

Utah took a 13-8 lead in the first set after going on a 7-1 run. The Utes were able to keep the lead at five when leading 18-13 later on in the set, but San Francisco rattled off four consecutive points to cut the lead to one point. A block from Utah earned a much-needed sideout and started a 4-1 run, which led to a timeout after seeing Utah take a 22-18 lead.

The Dons responded out of the break with three unanswered points to trail Utah just 22-21, but another Ute block and a kill from Lauren Jardine gave Utah its first set point, 24-21. The Dons scored the next play, but an attack…
