SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah Volleyball will welcome in graduate transfer Claranne Fechter as their newest member of the Ute program this upcoming fall. The defensive specialist out of Powell, Ohio, comes to Utah from Campbell University where she was an All-Coastal Athletic Association second-team honoree in 2023.
With her second-team All-CAA honors, Fechter became one of three players in Campbell program history to earn all-conference honors all four years. She compiled 1,819 digs throughout her time as a Camel, for second-most in program history. Fechter comes away from a 2023 season where she led the CAA in total digs (505) and digs/set (4.39), as well as leading Campbell with 34 service aces.
“We’re so excited to have Claranne join our program. She is an accomplished and decorated player from Campbell University that will bring a wealth of experience to our team and specifically our defense,” said head coach Beth Launiere. “She is well respected as a player and a person by those that have coached her and played against her. We can’t wait for her to get to Salt Lake City!”
Before Campbell joined the CAA, Fechter collected numerous Big South awards, including Big South Defensive Player of the Year honors with Big South first team recognition in 2022.
Throughout her time at Campbell, Fechter earned Big South Libero of the Week nine times, collecting the honor four times in 2022, three times in 2021, and twice during her first season on campus in the spring of 2020. Fechter earned Big South All-Freshman Team honors, in that same spring of 2020 with the Camels.
Fechter had a standout season in 2022, turning her preseason Big South Preseason Defensive Player of the Year into a reality by the season’s end. During her 2022 campaign, Fechter earned Big South Libero of the Week in three consecutive weeks, collecting the award a total of four times during that season. She would finish the season leading the conference, in both digs (562), and digs/set (4.72).
While at Campbell, Fechter appeared in 107 matches, recording 460 assists and 107 service aces. Over the course of her final three seasons, Fechter eclipsed the 500-plus dig mark in 2021, 2022 and 2023, averaging over 4.3 digs/set in each of her four seasons.
