Despite falling into a 4-0 hole, Utah battled back and chipped away at the lead to later tie the score 10-10. The Utes took a 15-12 lead at the media timeout after scoring four of five points, but out of the break, the Cougars scored three straight to tie the set.
The two teams went back and forth with the lead as Utah would wind up holding a 23-21 lead late after kills from Emrie Satuala and Rianne Vos. Out of back-to-back BYU timeouts, the Cougars evened the score 23-23, forcing Utah to call a timeout. Vos tooled a ball off the block to earn her fourth kill of the set before BYU sent a ball long to give the Utes a 25-23 win and even the match 1-1.
