Utes Suffer First Loss of the Season to #8 Purdue

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball hosted nationally ranked No. 8 Purdue from the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Friday evening, falling to the Boilermakers, 3-0 (27-29, 20-25,13-25).
 
Utah came out swinging in the first set, dominating the start with a pair of aces coming from Kamryn Gibadlo. The Boilermakers began to battle back, taking their first lead, 11-9, after a three-point run. The two sides exchanged runs, as the Utes regained the lead, 15-14 and 21-17. Utah was on the verge of securing the set victory, leading Purdue, 24-20 before the Boilermakers put away five consecutive points to extend the set past 25. Continuing to exchange blows and neither giving an inch, Purdue broke the Utah serve taking the two-point advantage to steal set one.
 
Moving into the second set, the two sides continued to battle back and forth looking for the edge. Purdue found a five-point advantage over the Utes at 13-8. Battling back to 16-13, Utah put together a three-point run, coming off a pair of kills from Emrie Satuala, along with an ace from Gibadlo. Utah trailed 19-17, and then 20-18 coming off the Allie Olsen block.
 
Utah kept it close through the early going in the third set, getting kills from Olsen, Gibadlo and Satuala. An ace from Gibadlo put evened the set score at 4-4, before she combined with Ashley West on the block assist to keep things knotted up at five. Utah took their largest lead of the set, 7-5, following the Satuala kill and the Olsen and Levani Key-Powell block. Purdue strung together a string of runs that would follow, eventually…
