PITTSBURGH – Valeria Vazquez Gomez has been drafted in the Pro Volleyball Federation by the Omaha Supernovas, announced on Monday. She was the sixth pick in the fourth round in the second ever PVF draft and has the opportunity to play professional volleyball in the United States after the conclusion of the 2024 season. Vazquez Gomez joins Pitt volleyball alumni Courtney Buzzerio, Kayla Lund, Leketor Member-Meneh, Chiamaka Nwokolo and Layne Van Buskirk in the league.
In her six seasons at Pitt, Vazquez Gomez has contributed in every facet of the game. She notched her 1,000th career kill against Virginia earlier this season and is currently at 1,050 kills, 983 digs, 124 aces, 151 blocks and 109 assists. She notched AVCA Second Team All-American honors in 2022 and was an All-ACC and AVCA East Coast Region member in 2022 and 2023. Vazquez Gomez was named a two-time ACC Player of the Week in her redshirt junior season and is first in program history for total digs in an NCAA Tournament (62) and tied for first with four aces in an NCAA Tournament match against Louisville in the Elite Eight last season. She is also third in program history for most digs in an NCAA Tournament match with 22 against Wisconsin in 2022 to advance to the Final Four.
The 2024 season marks the second season for Pro Volleyball Federation, the first comprehensive professional volleyball league in the United States.
