VB Pro Update: LVFL Grubbs to Play in First-Ever LOVB Match

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Former All-American Tessa Grubbs (2016-19) is set to compete in the first-ever League One Volleyball (LOVB) match Thursday night, as seven former Lady Vols are competing in the pros this year.

LOVB begins its inaugural season with a matchup between Grubbs and LOVB Atlanta against LOVB Salt Lake City. Fans can watch live on ESPN+ at 7:30 p.m. ET. Grubbs garnered All-America and All-SEC status as a senior and finished her Lady Vol career with 1,413 kills, 216 digs and 169 blocks.

In addition to Grubbs, Nina Cajic (2024), Raeven Chase (2023), Morgahn Fingall (2019-23), Natalie Hayward (2020-22), Jenaisya Moore (2023) and Breana Runnels (2021) are either prepping for or have already begun their pro leagues for the season.

Cajic and Moore will play in the other professional league in the U.S., competing in the second season of the Pro Volleyball Federation. Cajic was selected in the fourth round of this season’s draft by the Indy Ignite. The second team All-American was the first SEC player taken in the draft. Moore was taken in the fourth round of last year’s draft by the Columbus Fury. However, she will don a new jersey this season, as she was signed by the San Diego Mojo recently.

Moore and the Mojo open their season Thursday night at the Orlando Valkyries. Fans can tune in on Fox Sports 2 at 7 p.m. Cajic and the Ignite kick things off Saturday by hosting the Valkyries at 7 p.m. Cajic and Moore will square off later this month on Jan. 24.

The other four Lady Vols are already in the thick of their seasons, as they are competing in Europe. Fingall (Volero Le Cannet) and Runnels (Vandœuvre Nancy Volley-Ball) are playing in France, while Chase (Viteos NUC) and Hayward (Volley Lugano) play in Switzerland.

Runnels recently garnered MVP status for one of her matches, and last night, she and Vandœuvre Nancy Volley-Ball won their matchup in the first round of the CEV Cup playoffs.
