Vikings Sting the Yellowjackets With the Season Sweep

Des Moines, IA- The Vikings got back on track this week when they picked up their first win of the week over conference opponent Graceland University. The Vikings jumped out to a quick lead and held on for the rest of the match making quick work of the Yellowjackets with a 3-set sweep, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20. 

Set 1: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 23

The Vikings were able to pick up several free points to start the match off of some errors from the Yellowjackets before Daniel Galili (SO/Shomrat, Israel) picked up the first kill of the match for the Vikings. Daniel Wong (SR/Campbell, CA ) got in on the early action as well when he picked up a block and then his own kill two plays later. This helped started a Vikings run to lead to a Graceland timeout after the Vikings stretched the lead to 5, 12-7. Wong got the Vikings got another kill right after the timeout followed by a short run from Nickolas Lima (FR/Curitiba, Brazil ) who picked up 3 kills for the Vikings. This run was capped off with an ace from Galili and forced another Graceland timeout. The Vikings kept the pressure on the Yellowjackets after the timeout and secured the first-set victory with a 25-23

Set 2: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 18

Zeo Meyer (JR/Wheaton, IL ) picked up the first kill for the Vikings in the second set with an assist from Adalberto Gonzalez (SO/Devurge, Dominican Republic). Gonzalez followed that up with his own kill tying the match up at 5’s. Lima picked up an ace followed up by another Wong Kill. Nicolas Vattier (SO/Santiago, Chile) also got a kill which helped fluster the Yellowjackets and force two attack errors back to back. Wong took advantage of that and tacked on another two kills in a row. This late surge from the Vikings was capped off by kills from Wong, Gioele Iacono (SO/Milan, Italy ), and Lima before Meyer iced the game with a service ace. Grand View goes up 2-0 with a 25-18 win.

Set 3: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 20

The Vikings picked up two quick points to start the set before the Yellowjackets fought back and put together a short run. Lima put a stop to that with his first kill sparking another Viking run capped off by a Vattier Kill before Graceland took a timeout. After the timeout, the teams traded points for a while until Meyer picked up a kill and Lima followed it up with an ace forcing another Graceland timeout….
