COLUMBIA, S.C. – Head coach Tom Mendoza announced the addition of Madelyn Cole to the coaching staff, she will serve as Director of Volleyball Operations heading into the 2023 season. Along with an accomplished playing career, Cole served on three Division I coaching staffs prior to her move to South Carolina.
“We are thrilled about the opportunity to add Madelyn to our staff,” Mendoza said. “She is driven to be successful at the highest level and will be a valued member of our staff and a great mentor for our student-athletes.”
In her last role, Cole spent the 2022 season as an assistant coach for Oral Roberts University. Prior to that, she served as an assistant coach at Butler University, assisting with recruiting operations and on-court development with setters. In her career as a student-athlete, Cole was a two-time Big East Champion and NCAA Tournament participant at Creighton University from 2018-19, where she was a two-year starter at setter. Cole was named to the All-Big East Team in both seasons and was an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American in 2019.
She spent her freshman and sophomore seasons as a starter for Marshall University, making the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. Her first coaching role following her playing career was in 2021, serving as a graduate assistant for Providence College. With the Friars, she coordinated weekly practice schedules, assisted in scouting and engaged in the development of athletes on and off the court. While at Providence, Cole was named a 2021 AVCA Diversity Award recipient.
“I’m grateful for and excited about this opportunity to work with everyone here at South Carolina,” Cole said. “I look forward to contributing to the program, university and community.”
A native of Dallas, Texas, Cole earned her bachelor’s degree in healthy lifestyle management from Creighton University.
