ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE
WSU is now 5-1 in conference play after winning both matches last weekend over Pacific and Saint Mary’s in a week that saw Katy Ryan win WCC Offensive Player of the Week, and Lucie Blazkova win Freshman of the Week. The Cougs have won 10 of their last 13 matches, and although losing their first two matches to begin the season, they were competitive matches as the Cougs worked through early adjustments with some new faces. The Cougs returned five from the 2023 team, including Logann Golden, Weronika Wojdyla, Katy Ryan, Emma Barbero and Lucie Blažková. In addition to the returners, nine newcomers have entered the program, including grad transfers Sage Brustad (Eastern Washington), Jaden Walz (Bowling Green) and Jade Warren (College of Idaho); junior transfers Keniya Cleveland (Feather River College), Taryn Vrieling (Idaho) and Kylie Wong (Arizona); and incoming true freshmen Italia Bernal, Haumea Marumoto and Breccan Scheck.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday’s match will be the 77th meeting between WSU and OSU. Although the Beavers won the most-recent matchup 3-2 last season, WSU is 10-1 in their last 11 meetings, winning 10 consecutively from Nov. 21, 2018 to Sept. 28, 2023.
Saturday will be the second time WSU has faced San Diego this season, and the fifth meeting all-time between the two programs, sitting tied in the all-time series 2-2. The Cougars came away with a 4-set win in their first match this season in Pullman.
UP NEXT
WSU plays just one match next weekend, hosting Gonzaga in Bohler Gym on Saturday, Oct. 26. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ at 12 p.m. noon.
