Volleyball Defeats Bluefield; Advances to AAC Semifinals

Kingsport, Tennessee– The Brenau volleyball team defeated Bluefield (Va.) College in five sets (25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11) in the quarterfinals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament on Thursday.

The fifth-seeded Golden Tigers won the opening two sets of the match and looked to be in control until the fourth-seeded Rams answered with two set victories to even the score 2-2.

In the final set, Brenau took control from the start and cruised to a 15-11 victory to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

Junior Mary Ellen Enright led the Golden Tigers with a match-high 25 kills and 16 digs and senior Rachel Hodges added 13 kills. Sophomore Chloe Bennett also posted 10 kills. 

Defensively, junior Julieanne Saliba had 28 digs and senior Sydney Norton had 12 digs. 

Norton combined with junior Gabrielle Hogle for 53 assists.

The Golden Tigers (20-12 overall) will face top-seeded Bryan (Tenn.) College (24-5) on Friday at 10 am at the Meadowview Marriott Convention Center.  Bryan defeated Milligan (Tenn.) College in three sets in the quarterfinals.
