Volleyball Drops Series Finale With Iowa

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Rutgers volleyball was unable to fly past the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday night at the Xtreme Arena.

RU, in the midst of a three-game road trip, fell to Iowa to close out the season series by a score of 27-25, 25-15, 25-20.

  • Junior Aly Borellis collected her 21st career double-double and third of the season with 24 helpers and 13 digs to go along with a pair of blocks.
  • Freshman Avery Jesewitz led the offense with 10 kills while adding five digs and an ace. Redshirt junior Alissa Kinkela and sophomore Anna Hartman each had eight kills apiece.
  • Redshirt freshman Krista Dooley led RU at the net with a trio of blocks, including a solo stop.
  • Freshman Lily Bolen also added in nine digs for the defense.

  • SET 1 (25-27) | After Iowa took the match’s first two points, Rutgers went in front by rattling off five unanswered. Lily Bolen gave Rutgers the lead as the Hawkeyes managed to save her serve only to have Krista Dooley lay down the hammer. An Iowa errant attack put RU up 11-7, however, the Hawkeyes went on a 9-2 run, including six straight, to go ahead 16-13. The two squads went toe-to-toe trading the next 13 points. Down the stretch, Rutgers fought back to tie the opener on three occasions.  Aly Borellis and Natalie Robinson teamed up at the right pin to deny a Hawkeye attack to knot the score at 23-23, an Avery Jesewitz swing tied the set at 24-24 and a Anna Hartman kill had the frame even at 25-25.
