EAST LANSING, Mich. –  The United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that Michigan State University is among the collegiate and high school teams that have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2021-2022 season. First awarded following the 1992-93 academic year, the award honors volleyball team that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

“Academic achievement does not happen by accident,” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “I’m so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority.”

Michigan State had 10 players earn Academic All-Big Ten honors (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better) and three players named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars (cumulative GPA of 3.7 or better). Seven Spartans finished the year with a GPA above 3.5.

It’s the third consecutive year that Michigan State has received this honor and the fourth time in the last five seasons. MSU first earned the award in 2002.
