Volleyball Falls to SFA – Ole Miss Athletics

Alabama

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Ole Miss volleyball rounded out non-conference play on Saturday, falling to SFA in four sets inside Shelton Gym.

Four Rebels finished in double-figures, led by Payton Brgoch with 14 kills, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Jacks held Ole Miss to its lowest hitting percentage of the season at a .130 clip.

Both teams played a tight first set. Stephen F. Austin held a small edge the majority of the set, until back-to-back kills from the Rebel middles helped tie the match at 23, but a pair of errors allowed the Lady Jacks to take the set, 23-25.

Ole Miss battled in set two to even the match. The Rebels steadily built up a five-point lead at 20-15, but saw it being to slip away as SFA responded to tie the match at 21. From there both teams went back-and-forth until a massive block and kill from Brgoch gave Ole Miss a 26-24 victory.

Another close set followed in the third as both teams stood tied at 18; however, SFA pulled away with a late 7-1 run to secure the set. The Rebels fell behind 4-10 to start the fourth. Ole Miss tried to climb back into the set, but the offense couldn’t string together any runs, falling 18-25 and dropping the match.

Ole Miss is back in action at home on September 22 to begin SEC play against Alabama.
