Volleyball goes 3-1 at Hastings College Classic

ABEREDEEN, S.D.โ€”The Presentation College Saints went 1-3 over the weekend facing a tough road schedule at the Hastings Classic. The Saints took a 3-1 match from the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes and dropped narrow games to OPSU, Hastings and MACU.

Match 1 | OPSU | 15-26, 9-25, 29-31

In the first match of the weekend, the Saints took on Oklahoma Panhandle State. Despite the Saints efforts they ended up losing is a 3 set sweep. The Saints attack was led by Grace Tobin (JR/Mason City, IA) with 11 kills followed by Kerstin Knopik (SO/Little Falls, MN) with 10 kills and Maggie Heesch (SO/Watertown, SD) with 7 kills. Laura Babcock (SR/Aberdeen, SD) controlled the defense with 24 total digs. Presentation out attacked OPSU 131 to 112.

Match 2 | HC | 22-25, 25-27, 25-23, 20-23

To finish the day Friday the Saints faced host Hastings College. Presentation lost the first two set narrowly 22-25 and 25-27 before taking a third set win 25-23. The Saints would switch leds with the Broncos 7 times before Hastings would put on the offensive pressure, PC would drop the final set 20-23. Saints defense would be led by Babcock with 27 digs, Olivia Corey (SO/Watertown, SD) with 10 digs and Knopik with 3 blocks.

Match 3 | KWU |25-22, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20

On Saturday the Saints faced off against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, Presentation prevailed 25-22, 26-24, 20-25, 25-20. The Saints totaled 52 kills on 121 total attacks. Presentation posted an impressive .425 team attack in the first set. The Saints attack was led by Knopik with 17 kills and a .667 macth kill percentage, Tobin with 15 kills, Heesch with 10 and Makyah Albrecht (FR/Bozeman, MT) with 7. Defensive efforts were spread throughout the Saints squad as Babcock led with 17 digs, Sydney Miller (SR/Battle Ground, WA) with 8 digs, Cassidy Keller (SR/Canistota, SD) with 7 digs, Tobin with 5 digs, Corey with 4 digs.

Match 4 | MACU | 22-25, 15-25, 23-25

To close out the tournament the Saints faced Mid-America Christian. Despite the Saints out attacking MACU 97-87 Presentation would struggle to get it done losing in a 3 set sweep. Presentation would out attack MACU .233 to .192 in the first set alone. Saints defense led by Knopik with 13 kills, followed by Heesch with 7 kills. On the defense end Tobin lead with 9 digs and Babcock would follow with 8 digs.

The tournament completion brings the Saints record on the season to 1-4, averaging 11.33…
