Volleyball Holds Rutgers Tournament In Home Opener


PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers volleyball team makes its 2022 Jersey Mike’s Arena debut and wraps up the nonconference slate this weekend with the six-game Rutgers Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18.  
 

 

        

  • Admission is free to all tournament games.
  • Fans must register for parking here.
  • Proof of full vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of the event will be required for entry to all indoor events (for all individuals above the age of five).

  • First 100 people to enter Jersey Mike’s Arena will receive a free Rutgers volleyball t-shirt. 

 Saturday, September 17

  • Rutgers vs. FDU – 10:00 a.m.
  • FIU vs. Princeton – 1:00 p.m.
  • Princeton vs. FDU – 4:00 p.m.
  • Rutgers vs. FIU – 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, September 18

  • FIU vs. FDU – 10:00 a.m.
  • Rutgers vs. Princeton – 1:00 p.m.

  • Rutgers enters the weekend at 5-4 overall after going 1-2 at last weekend’s Rambler Challenge in Chicago. The Scarlet Knights earned a sweep of St. Thomas and fell 3-0 to Kansas State and 3-1 to host Loyola (Chicago).
  • Redshirt freshman outside hitter Alissa Kinkela currently leads the offense at 3.34 k/s. Last weekend, she totaled 30 kills including double-digit outings against the Tommies and Ramblers. Two weekends ago, Kinkela logged a career-high 18 against against three-time CAA champion Towson.
  • Assisting the offense have been redshirt junior Lauren DeLo and senior transfer Alyssa Nayar. DeLo, who is fifth in the rally era averaging 5.13 a/s over her career, is putting up 6.68 helpers per set with Nayar averaging 5.45 a/s.
  • Junior middle Kristina Grkovic, meanwhile, leads the squad with 11 aces and is third on the team in kills at 2.3 k/s. On defense, she has racked up a team-leading 43 blocks, coming up with 1.23 b/s. Last weekend, she totaled 16 blocks, including seven against the Wildcats, and added 24 total kills.
  • Sophomore Lucy Malone checks in averaging 3.49 d/s. Among her stats this season was a career-high tying 22 digs against Radford at the Towson Invitational two weekends ago. Junior Madyson Chitty is averaging 3.49 d/s this season and is fourth in the rally era with 3.26 d/s over her career. 

  • Megan Vernon set a new career mark in kills with her 13 against St. Thomas and her .620…
