Volleyball Hosts South Carolina for Two Matches this Weekend in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama plays two matches at home this weekend against South Carolina, opening the series on Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. CT before rematching against the Gamecocks on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. CT

Scouting Alabama

• Last week, the Crimson Tide earned a four-set road win Wednesday night at Texas A&M before falling to Mississippi State in three sets on Saturday
• Four of the remaining six matches on Alabama’s schedule will be in Tuscaloosa
• The Tide leads the SEC with 168 aces, while Abby Marjama leads the league and is sixth nationally with 58
• Alabama returns 14 players from last year’s squad, including seniors Taylor Drapp, Emily Janek, Dru Kuck, Katie Shook and Alyiah Wells and fifth-year senior Marjama
• Newcomers this year include freshman Micah Gryniewicz, an AVCA All-Region honoree from Chandler, Ariz., and sophomore Maddy McCormick, who played at Colorado State last season

Last Time out: vs. Mississippi State

• Alabama volleyball dropped a three-set decision to Mississippi State Saturday afternoon in Foster Auditorium, falling by set scores of 24-26, 21-25 and 11-25
• The Tide was the first to reach set point in the opening set over the Bulldogs, 24-21, but the visitors rallied to tie it at 24-24 and Alabama took a timeout. Mississippi State came out with back-to-back points out of the break to win the opener, 26-24.
• Trailing 7-3 early in the second, the Tide scored five unanswered to take a lead, but the Bulldogs answered right back to score seven in a row and pull ahead 14-8. Alabama drew as close as three points but Mississippi State remained in front the rest of the way, winning 25-21
• Ahead 15-11 in the third set, the Bulldogs closed it out with 10 in a row to win, 25-11, and take the match

• Individually, Abby Marjama leads the individual rankings with 58 (0.67/set), which is 25 more than the next-highest total
