Three accomplished hitters have been named captains of the 2024 Muhlenberg volleyball team.
Junior Christina Marcin and seniors Esmae Oehler and Rachel Jacobs (pictured left to right above) were selected to lead the Mules, who are scheduled to play their home opener on Saturday when they host Stevens and Vassar in the Buttermaker Tournament.
Marcin led the Mules and ranked seventh in the Centennial Conference in kills per set last season. She also was second in the CC in service aces per set and third in points per set. Marcin had a tremendous rookie season, recording double digits in kills in each of the first 11 matches of her career before suffering an injury in the 12th. So far this fall, she is averaging 2.41 kills and a team-leading 2.91 digs per set while also leading Muhlenberg with 14 service aces.
Oehler, in her third year as a team captain, leads all active Mules and ranks 15th in program history with 694 career kills. She finished first or second on the team in kills per set in each of her first three seasons and paces Muhlenberg with her average of 2.67 kills per set through the first six matches of 2024. Oehler has reached double figures in kills 34 times in her career, with a high of 19 in a five-set win vs. Penn State Berks in 2022.
Jacobs is in her second season as a team captain and leads all active Muhlenberg players with 127 career blocks. In 2023, she finished second on the Mules in blocks and third in kills and kills per set, recording career highs in every category. Jacobs is third on the Mules in kills so far this season and leads the team with 13 blocks. She has recorded between 7 and 10 kills in each of the last five matches.
Muhlenberg is seeking to earn a CC playoff berth for the third consecutive season in 2024.
