The Muhlenberg volleyball team picked up its first Centennial Conference win with a historic sweep of Bryn Mawr.
The Mules (11-7, 1-3) won 25-4 in the first set, breaking the school record for fewest points allowed in a CC set since the start of 25-point scoring. The previous mark of 25-6 was set against Bryn Mawr in 2009.
Muhlenberg went on to take the second and third sets, 25-16, 25-8. The 28 points allowed were the fewest in a CC match for the Mules, topping by four the record set last year against Bryn Mawr.
The Mules hit .444 for the match while holding the Owls (3-9, 0-3) to a negative hitting percentage.
In the first set, Muhlenberg recorded kills on 10 of its 15 attempts without making an error. The teams traded the first two points of the set before the Mules reeled off 12 straight points behind the serving of sophomore Christina Marcin, who notched 5 of her career-high 8 aces in the run.
It was 18-4 before Muhlenberg closed out the set with a 7-0 run that included two kills apiece by Marcin and freshman Sierra Addy (pictured above) and back-to-back aces by junior Esmae Oehler.
The Mules led comfortably throughout the second set, with junior Rachel Jacobs recording three straight kills in one stretch to help open up and early 8-3 lead. Jacobs finished the match with 7 kills in only 8 attempts.
Senior Alyssa Faville served 5 aces in a 10-0 run in the third set that gave Muhlenberg a 15-2 lead, and Marcin appropriately ended the match with an ace.
