Volleyball Preview: Lady Vols to Battle the Hogs in Two-Match Series


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Lady Vols volleyball team is on the road for the rest of October, beginning with a two-match series in Fayetteville, Arkansas, against the Razorbacks. The matches are slated for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 15 at Barnhill Arena.
 
The first serve on Friday is 8 p.m. ET, with Saturday’s start time slated for 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee swept its series versus South Carolina last weekend – winning match one in five sets before taking the series with a 3-0 sweep in match two. The Lady Vols posted 21 blocks on Saturday vs. South Carolina – a season-high and the most since blocking Arkansas 21 times on Sept. 25, 2021.
 
SWEEPS-VILLE
Seven of the Lady Vols’ 10 wins this season have come in three sets. Including last season, 21 of UT’s last 30 wins have been sweeps.
 
HOGTIED
UT swept its series with Arkansas a year ago, winning the first match in four sets before sweeping the Hogs in match two. Since her arrival on Rocky Top, head coach Eve Rackham Watt is 6-1 vs. the Hogs. The lone loss came in Fayetteville on March 14, 2021.
 
WINDICATORS
Tennessee is 7-4 when it hits better than .250 this season. UT is also 10-2 when it wins the second set. During Rackham Watt’s tenure, UT is 55-8 when it hits .250 or better and is 66-10 when it wins the second set.
 
CLOSING IN ON 1,000
Right-side attacker Morgahn Fingall enters the weekend with 959 career kills and is closing in on the 1,000-kill milestone. Currently ranked 11th in kills in Tennessee history during the rally scoring era, she would become just the 10th Lady Vol to reach 1,000 career kills since rally scoring went into effect in 2001.

2022 Record: 11-5 (2-4 SEC)
 
Series Record: UT leads 25-21
 
Last Meeting: Sept. 26, 2021 – A 3-0 sweep for the Lady Vols.
 
Key Player/Stat: Arkansas is led by No. 7 Taylor Head and No. 10 Jillian Gillen. Both players have over 200 kills this season with Gillen averaging 3.66 kills per set and Head at 3.49 kills per set. Both players helped the Razorbacks to wins over No. 7 Georgia Tech and No. 8 Washington during non-conference play.
