The Muhlenberg volleyball team continued its run at a playoff spot with a four-set win against Washington College in its home finale.
With one week left in the regular season, the Mules (13-9, 3-5) are tied for seventh place in the Centennial Conference, but they finish up on the road against the teams in fifth (Haverford) and sixth (Dickinson). The top six teams qualify for the playoffs.
Prior to the match, Muhlenberg honored seniors Isabella Pontrelli, Alyssa Faville, Julia Ficon and Christina Dalton (pictured above with their families).
It was a junior, however, who stole the show in the match, as Christina Marcin exploded for a career-high 25 kills – the most in one match by a Mule since 2004. Marcin recorded her 25 kills in just 42 swings, hitting .452.
After the teams split the first two sets, Muhlenberg stormed out to a 10-0 lead in the third set behind the serving of freshman Jenny Ryan. The Shorewomen (8-15, 3-5) never got closer than nine points, and the Mules took a 2-1 lead with a 25-15 win.
A 7-0 run with Ficon serving broke open the fourth set, and Muhlenberg went on to close out the match with a 25-18 win.
Ryan finished with a career-high 46 assists, the most by a Mule in a four-set match since 2018, and added 12 digs and 4 aces. Junior Rachel Jacobs knocked down 11 kills, and freshman Sierra Addy recorded 7 kills and 7 blocks.
Faville’s 23 digs brought her career total to 1381, just four short of fourth place on the program’s all-time list.
