Volleyball Season Ends with Loss to Dakota State

Watertown, SD – The Presentation College Saints fell to the Dakota State Trojans by a score of 14-25, 16-25, 25-19, 17-25. The loss in the North Star Tournament’s first round ends the Saints season. They end the season with a 15-14 record, their first winning record since 2017.

With the first set all tied up at five points a piece, the Trojans used a 5-1 run to take a lead that they would not surrender. Ultimately winning the set 25-14.

The second set was very similar to the first. After being tied at four, the Trojans went on a 13-5 run. They would win this set 25-16.

The Saints dug deep in the third set, getting out to a 12-5 lead. DSU would come back and make it 14-12, but the Saints would close out the set 25-19. After playing the Trojans two times earlier in the season, this was the first set that the Saints won against DSU.

The Trojans would get out to an early 7-3 lead in the fourth set before finishing off the match with a 25-17 set win.

Offensively the Saints were led by Becca Payne, who had 13 kills. Ashley Alfonso finished with nine kills, while Kerstin Knopik and Allie White each had eight. Watertown native Olivia Corey led the team with 23 assists.

Defensively, the Saints were led by Laura Babcock and Kenzie Kuxhaus, each tallying 18 digs.

Up Next: The Saints will look to build off of their great season next year. With Babcock and Kuxhaus both returning, they will return the two best defenders.
