Syracuse volleyball takes their final road trip of the season this weekend, with a matchup against Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. The Orange will face the Hurricane on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
Syracuse trails in the all-time series against Miami, 2-11. The squads first met on Nov, 17. 2002, where the Orange lost in straight sets. Their last meeting occurred at the end of October, where the ‘Cuse suffered another three-set loss to the Hurricanes at the Women’s Building. Syracuse’s most recent win over Miami was a 3-1 victory on Oct. 12, 2020.
In their match earlier in the season, the Orange played the Hurricanes close in the first set, losing only 25-22. From there, the ‘Cuse dropped sets two and three by scores of 25-19 and 25-17, respectively.
The Orange look to rebound after two losses this past weekend. Despite the defeats, Syracuse comes off strong individual performances by Polina Shemanova and Lauren Woodford. The graduate student outside hitter recorded a double-double against Boston College (12 kills, 10 digs). Meanwhile, setter Lauren Woodford set a single-game career high with 29 assists against the Eagles.
Polina Shemanova is ranked third in the ACC in points per set (4.51, 56th nationally), third in kills per set (3.98, 51st nationally), and fourth in attacks per set (10.50, 91st nationally).
Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk is ranked tenth in the ACC in kills per set (3.29, 186th nationally) and seventh in attacks per set (9.59, 140th nationally).
In the match against Boston College, Lokhmanchuk reached her 34th ace of the season, which puts her fifth on the Syracuse single-season service-aces record list. Lokhmanchuk needs five more to tie the single-season record (held by Ella Saada, 39 aces, 2007).
