RALEIGH, N.C. – Syracuse Volleyball hits the road for the start of a four-match road swing, with meetings against NC State and North Carolina on tap this weekend.
Opening serve against NC State is set for Friday, Oct. 14th at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s (Oct. 16th) meeting with North Carolina will begin at 3 p.m. The matchup against the Wolfpack will air on ACCNX, while the meeting with the Tar Heels will air live on the ACC Network.
The Wolfpack holds a 10-5 all-time series edge over the Orange. The first-ever meeting between the two squads was on Sept. 17th, 1983, where the Pack earned a three-set sweep. ‘Cuse took the most recent meeting (Nov. 24th, 2021) with a three-set victory. Syracuse currently holds a one-game win streak over the Pack.
North Carolina holds an 11-2 lead in the all-time series. The Tar Heels and the Orange first met on Oct. 19th, 1990, with the Tar Heels taking a 3-1 victory. In the most recent meeting, North Carolina locked in a three-set sweep (Oct. 17th, 2021). SU’s last victory over UNC occurred on Oct. 19th, 2018, when the Orange brought out the brooms in a 3-0 sweep. The Orange are currently on a three-match losing streak to the Tar Heels.
On Sunday, Oct. 9th, against #2 Louisville Polina Shemanova cemented herself in the Syracuse record books, as she now holds the all-time career kills record with 1,701 and counting. After passing Dana Fiume (1,698 kills), a record that has stood for 22 years, Shemanova is the first and only Orange in history to record over 1,700 career kills.
Shemanova is ranked second in the ACC in attacks per set (10.82, 46th nationally), second in kills per set (4.16, 26th nationally), and third in points per set (4.60, 40th nationally). Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk is ranked sixth in the ACC in aces per set (0.39, 122nd nationally) and seventh in attacks per set (9.51, 145th nationally).
