Volleyball set for Oregon road trip; Cougs to play at OSU Friday night


PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State volleyball (16-7, 8-4 Pac-12) will be looking for a season sweep over Oregon State (7-15, 2-10) Friday night as they hit the road for the second matchup of the year against the Beavers.  Friday’s match is slated for a 6:04 p.m. first serve at the Gill Coliseum where the Cougars have won the last four meetings as a part of nine-straight victories overall against Oregon State.

WSU went 3-1 over a four-match home stretch the past two weekends and swept Oregon State, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19, back on Oct. 9 which was the fourth sweep in a row for the Cougars in the all-time series vs OSU.

WSU Quick Notes:

>> After the 2-0 home weekend against the Oregon schools last month, WSU is now 16-3 against Pac-12 northwest schools (Oregon, Oregon State and Washington) since 2019.

>> Washington State has won six of the last even matchups with OSU in Corvallis dating back to 2015.

>> WSU is on a four-match winning streak on the road at OSU with back-to-back sweeps in the Gill Coliseum going into Friday’s match.

>> Washington State is 4-5 in road matches so far this season and has more kills (414-396), blocks (118-106), and digs (387-376) than its opponents in the first nine true road contests of the season.

>> Pia Timmer moved into a tie for 10th all-time in career kills (1,118) in Sunday’s sweep over Cal.

>> Magda Jehlarova is 11th in the NCAA and second in the Pac-12 in blocks per set (1.43).  She is first in the Pac-12 with 119 total blocks which also ranks 15th in the NCAA.

>> Karly Basham is the team’s leader with 33 aces and reeled off four straight aces in the opening set against Cal on Sunday.  Basham finished Sunday with five total aces and earlier this season, tied a WSU four-set match record with seven aces in a win over Belmont.

>> The Cougs rank No. 22 in the nation and fifth in the Pac-12 at .268 hitting so far this season.
