Volleyball Signs Natalie Lau - California Golden Bears Athletics

Incoming Freshman Won Margi Beima Trophy In 2021

BERKELEY – This month, California volleyball made a big step in its preparation for the 2022 season with the signing of San Francisco native Natalie Lau, a 6-foot-0 setter from St. Ignatius College Preparatory.

“We are excited to have Natalie join our program here at Cal,” said head coach Sam Crosson. “She is a natural leader on the court and plays with an infectious energy and passion. In the classroom, she is an outstanding student who challenges herself academically. Natalie has shown the desire and dedication to her craft that align with our principles and values on the program. She will add depth and competition to our setting position once our season gets underway this fall.”

Lau led St. Ignatius to a 25-9 record in 2021 (8-2 West Catholic Athletic League), reaching First Team All-WCAL status and earning the Margi Beima Trophy at the San Francisco High School Awards, given each year to the top girls volleyball player in the area. She also made the American Volleyball Coaches Association All America High School Watch List that year, as well as receiving St. Ignatius’s Fighting Spirit Volleyball Award; in previous years, she was also named to the AVCA Phenom Watch List (2020) and earned her team’s Freshman Volleyball Leadership Award (2018).

An honor roll student, Lau has expressed interest in studying mechanical engineering at Cal.
