Volleyball Sweeps on Senior Day

Megan Ray had her day before and during the Muhlenberg volleyball team’s season-closing match vs. Lebanon Valley.

Honored prior to the match as the lone senior on a young Mule team, Ray contributed 7 kills, 4 aces, a career-high 15 digs and two long service runs as the Mules swept, 3-0, to finish the season with an 11-13 record.

Muhlenberg trailed the opening set, 9-7, before Ray recorded one of her kills. She then served nine straight points to give the Mules a commanding 17-9 lead. The 10-0 run included a trio of aces by Ray as well as three kills by freshman Jenna Stockfeder.

The Mules led by at least five points for the remainder of the set, wrapping up the 25-16 win on a kill by sophomore Christina Dalton.

The Dutchmen (10-11) had two chances to tie the match in the second set, leading 24-22, but a kill by freshman Esmae Oehler and another one by Ray made it 24-24. Lebanon Valley scored the next point and served again with a chance to capture the set at 25-24. This time it was a kill by Dalton that kept Muhlenberg alive, and subsequent kills by Stockfeder and Ray gave the Mules a 27-25 win.

Muhlenberg won the third set with a similar late comeback. The Dutchmen led 22-19 but scored no more points, with Ray serving the last five points of a match-ending 6-0 run. Back-to-back kills by Oehler, two of her team-high 12 in the match, sealed the sweep.

Oehler and junior Emma Eglinton each had 3 of the Mules’ 11 aces. Eglinton recorded 29 assists to push her career total to 1,092, just four away from the top 10 on the program’s all-time list.

Sophomore Alyssa Faville matched Ray with 15 digs to finish the season with 425, the 11th-highest season total ever by a Mule.

Ray ended her career with 318 kills and 168 digs.
