Volleyball Sweeps Union and Johnson in AAC Play

Gainesville, Georgia– The Brenau volleyball team defeated both Union (Ky.) College and Johnson (Tenn.) University in Appalachian Athletic Conference play to extend the squad’s seven game winning streak.

Against Union, the Golden Tigers lost the first two sets 23-25 and 21-25, but rallied to capture the next two sets 25-23 and 25-19 and even the match 2-2. In the fifth set, the home team jumped out to a 9-5 advantage,  but the visiting Bulldogs (15-13 overall, 12-7 AAC) answered with a 7-1 run to take a 12-10 lead.

Brenau junior Mary Ellen Enright notched three straight kills to give her team a 13-12 lead, but Union’s Shayna Baugh answered with a kill to even the score to 13-13. After a Union service error gave the Golden Tigers a 14-13 lead, Enright added another kill to close out the match and give Brenau the victory.  

Enright led Brenau with a match-high 21 kills and 17 digs and junior setter Gabrielle Hogle added 34 assists and 12 digs. Fellow setter Sydney Norton posted 26 assists and junior libero Julieanne Saliba had 22 digs.

On Saturday, the Golden Tigers continued the team’s momentum as the squad dispatched Johnson (Tenn.) University 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-21). 

Enright again led all attackers with 24 kills, while sophomore Madison Brock posted 12 digs. Saliba added a match-high 19 digs in the victory.

Brenau (18-12 overall, 12-7 AAC) next hosts Point (Ga.) University (12-14 overall, 9-9 AAC) on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in Gainesville in the final regular season match of the year.
