NORFOLK, Va. – Rutgers volleyball was unable to put a halt to Old Dominion’s five-match win streak as the Monarchs took the opening game from the Scarlet Knights in the ODU Invitational on Thursday night. The hosts topped RU 26-24, 25-14, 25-14

  • Freshman Natalie Robinson put away six kills along with a trio of blocks.
  • Rutgers collected seven aces with freshman Lily Bolen and redshirt junior Alissa Kinkela each serving up a pair. Bolen hit the 20 ace mark and is seven away from cracking the Rutgers freshman top 10 list.
  • Sophomore Anna Hartman and freshman Alleigh Dutton led the defense with five digs each.

  • SET 1 (24-26) | The opening set was even late, but the Monarchs edged out RU with the final two points of the stanza. ODU used a 6-0 scoring run to establish a 14-10 edge. After the two squads traded the next four points, the Scarlet Knights produced a 5-1 run capped by a kill from Alissa Kinkela to knot the score at 17-17-. Down the stretch, the frame would be tied four more times with a Monarch attack error evening the opener at 24-24. ODU, however, captured the next two points for the 1-0 lead.

  • SET 2 (14-25) | Back-to-back aces from Lily Bolen put Rutgers ahead 10-9. Old Dominion, however, responded with a trio of aces during a 6-1 run to go up 14-11. The Monarchs continued to grow its lead behind a .320 hitting percentage.

  • SET 3 (14-25) | Rutgers took the first three points on blocks by Kinkela, Robinson and Lexi Visintine and an ace from Kinkela, but rattled off the next six en route to its sixth-straight win.
