Volleyball Australia has announced that the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures event will be a feature of Volleyslam 2023 at Coolangatta for the second straight year.
The event will take place from 29 March to 2 April and form part of the ten-day, four-event Volleyslam 2023 extravaganza.
The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour is the international Beach Volleyball circuit featuring three levels of events – Elite16, Challenge and Futures.
Points are accumulated at Futures events to earn qualification to Challenge events, with the ultimate aim of emulating the likes of Olympic silver medalists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar to compete in the Elite 16.
Last year’s Pro Tour Futures events at Coolangatta were taken out by Australian men’s pairing Izac Carracher and Mark Nicolaidis, while USA’s Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss defeated Aussie favourites Nicole Laird and Phoebe Bell in the women’s final.
Hosting an event of this calibre on home sand gives the stars of tomorrow a stepping stone to continue their journey to the top levels of the sport, competing against international opposition along the way.
After hosting three international events in 2022 – an Elite16, Challenge and Futures event – Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee is delighted to bring another global tournament to Australia once again.
“Seeing the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures return to the Gold Coast is a win for players, spectators and the Volleyball community as a whole,” said Dee. “In the lead up to Brisbane 2032 it is important we continue to attract high quality events to Australia, and we’ve once again been able to do just that.
“I’d like to thank the Queensland Government and Major Events Gold Coast for helping us bring this 10-day festival of beach volleyball to the Gold Coast once again.”
Volleyball Australia announced last year that Volleyslam would remain on the Gold Coast through to 2025, with the inclusion of the Pro Tour Futures event this year providing another opportunity for the best emerging players to showcase their talent.
“Coolangatta has firmly cemented its place as the No 1 destination for premier beach volleyball action,’’ said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate. “The Volleyslam festival has become an exciting staple in Cooly each year and the inclusion of the Beach Pro Tour elevates the tournament to new heights, attracting the best beach volleyballers in the world.
“I applaud Major Events…
