Wagner Leads Cardinal in Sweep

AUSTIN, Texas – Opposite Moses Wagner registered a match-high 15 kills to lead No. 8 Stanford in a 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 sweep over No.7 Penn State, Friday, in the First Point Collegiate Challenge at the Austin Convention Center.

Stanford (5-0) hit .341 as a team, while holding Penn State (4-1) to a .195 clip. The Cardinal, which totaled 8.0 blocks, 29 digs and three aces, sided out at 82 percent for the match.

Wagner’s 15 kills came on .423 hitting and the sophomore also notched four blocks and three digs. Outside hitter Will Rottman finished with nine kills on .308 hitting, three digs, two blocks and an ace.

 



Setter Nathan Lietzke, an Austin native, dished out 33 assists and added seven digs, two kills, a block and an ace. The Cardinal totaled 19 kills on .531 hitting in the second set alone.

Middle blocker Adam Chang added five kills on seven errorless swings to hit a match-high .714, and recorded a match-best five blocks, while middle blocker Nathaniel Gates added four kills on .667 hitting and two blocks.
