CLEMSON, S.C. – Freshman Kennedy Wagner was named this week’s ACC Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. The honor comes after Wagner recorded 32 kills and 16 digs to be named the Big Orange Bash’s Most Valuable Player over the weekend.
The Valparaiso, Indiana, native opened her collegiate campaign in dominant fashion with a team-high 15 kills against Middle Tennessee. She tallied a .343 hitting percentage, six digs and one ace, as well as a solo block for 17 points to help the Tigers defeat the Blue Raiders. She followed that performance on Sunday with her first career double-double clocking 17 kills and 10 digs. She once again hit .343 while leading the team in kills. She finished her opening weekend averaging 4.57 kills per set, which leads the conference and averaging 4.86 points per set to sit third in the ACC.
This is the 27th Rookie/Freshman of the Week honor that the Clemson volleyball program has earned, and Wagner becomes the 15th Tiger to earn the weekly honor.
Clemson returns to action on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in Columbia, S.C., taking on in-state rival South Carolina in the Palmetto Series.
