MOUNT PLEASANT, IA — The Waldorf Volleyball team took six of seven sets en route to a Saturday afternoon sweep of University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis in a doubleheader hosted by Iowa Wesleyan University.  The Warriors swept the first game — 26-24, 25-15, 29-19 — and took the nightcap in four sets: 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21.

The Warriors (9-12) and Eutectics (8-21) were each originally scheduled to play host school Iowa Wesleyan in one of their two games, but IWU could not compete due to COVID-19 related issues.  Thanks to some swift negotiations, the Waldorf and UHSP were able to form a plan to play twice on the same day, with Iowa Wesleyan graciously agreeing to remain as host.

In the first game, sophomore outside hitter Kenzie Kidd (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah HS) led the way for the Warriors with nine total kills.  Her ten digs matched sophomore Kaylee Kidd (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah HS) as the sisters tied for a game high, while sophomore Trinity Perez (Worthing, SD/Roosevelt HS) followed with nine.  Junior setter Kaitlyn Bakke (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake HS) led all competitors with 27 assists.

Kenzie and Kaylee Kidd would again tie in the stats in the nightcap, with each player sharing a team high of 15 digs, while Bakke contributed 12.  Kenzie Kidd also tied an opponent for a game-high 15 kills.  Junior middle blocker Abygail Wood (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial HS) tallied 12 kills on 31 attempts for a .290 percentage.  Bakke again led all players with 44 assists, totaling 71 for the afternoon.

“We were happy to get two wins where everyone on the team contributed,” said Waldorf Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe.  “Special thanks to Iowa Wesleyan for being gracious hosts after the last-minute change.”

The early victory snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Warriors.  Their win in the nightcap improved their record in neutral site matches this season to an impressive 5-2.

Waldorf returns to action this Friday, October 22 when it travels to Presentation for a North Star Athletic Association league contest at 7:00 p.m.
